Unbow Your Head Sister

Unbow your head sister
You should never feel bad for wearing your scarf
You have no right to cry whilst others laugh
You laugh because you know that this is your choice
And on that day you’ll be the one to rejoice
Unbow your head sister
You should feel no shame for covering your body
Leave them to fill themselves with gainless gaudy
Cover it all; the good and bad
For your reward will be an eternal fad
Unbow your head sister
Straighten your back and square those shoulders
Your soul needs a place to lay rest your troublesome boulders
A place of peace for both your heart and mind
So that your hurt can turn to determination all outlined
Unbow your head sister
For you are like a black diamond; precious and rare
Show your pride by concealing it all let them stare
But know that you hold the light of a million stars
And you’ve got traces of gold in all your scars
Unbow your head sister
You’re a woman of silence and that shouldn’t bother
Because first you’re a Muslimah this nations fother
In a time where we’re sinking you keep us adrift
Your courage and strength will be our uplift
You’re an ocean of beauty
A forest of purity
A mountain of piety
And hope for society
Whether you’re a mother,
You’ve protected your brother,
Simply a lover
Or a woman of colour
Unbow your head sister
You are all Allah wants you to be
You stand higher than men in His eyes, so you see
You and I have no reason to feel shame for doing right
Because we’re warriors in the All-Knowing’s sight
 Unbow your head sister
We wouldn’t want that crown to slip
Wipe those pearly tears from your lip
Queens stand tall and firm with unfathomable grace
So my dear, chin up and plant a smile on your face
Unbow your head sister
