Unrequited Love

He could not leave,
he knew that she was special
He knew that no one would ever love him like she could have
He knew that although she may never be his -
in this lifetime,
he still wished to be a part of her life…somehow
He knew that she could never be replaced
Knowing her was a blessing
Not having her was a curse
He sometimes despised the fact that
she was happy without him
He sometimes wished
that their paths never crossed
He felt fooled by faith and robbed by fate
No one could fill this void as he
had saved this space for her – and her alone
Seasons changed and time passed,
evident that nothing lasts
Then why do you remain and haunt me every day
If you could not promise to stay!
